Romero Week 2025
Next month marks the forty-fifth anniversary of the martyrdom of Archbishop Romero.
As usual, there will be a variety of services, events and talks to commemorate the life and legacy of St Oscar Romero.
There are three main speakers this year.
Cardinal Michael Fitzgerald MAfr OBE
Cardinal Michael is an expert in Christian-Muslim relations. From 2002-2006 he headed the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue. At his retirement in 2012, he was the apostolic nuncio to Egypt and delegate to the Arab League. Cardinal Michael will preach at the National Ecumenical Service at St Martin-in-the-Fields Church on Saturday, 22 March.
Sister Gemma Simmonds CJ
Sr Gemma is a sister of the Congregation of Jesus, director of the Religious Life Institute and senior lecturer in pastoral theology at the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology, Cambridge. Sr Gemma will preach at Evensong at St Albans Cathedral on Sunday, 23 March.
Father Luis Orlando Perez SJ
Fr Luis Orlando is a Mexican Jeuit priest, human rights activist, and currently a doctoral student at UCL on the families of the disappeared in Mexico. Luis Orlando will be speaking in Leeds, Liverpool, and London.
